1. Roti Canai: A Flaky Bread, the Most Eaten Malaysian Food at Breakfast

Roti Canai: A Flaky Bread, the Most Eaten Malaysian Food at Breakfast

Malaysians’ Favorite Roti

Let's kick off our Malaysian food tour with the most popular breakfast dish in the country - Roti Canai.

This flaky, crispy flatbread is soft and chewy on the inside and is often paired with chicken curry and/or dal. You can find it everywhere in Malaysia, from street vendors to high-end restaurants. Trust me, Bestie, if you're looking for a tasty and filling breakfast, Roti Canai is a must-try dish. Or just eat it anytime you feel like. Go to any Mamak (Indian-Muslim) restaurant and they will have it - often 24/7!!!

2. Do you know Mee Kari? Another popular Malaysian dish

Next up on our food adventure is Mee Kari, a curry noodle dish made with yellow noodles and a sauce that's packed with coconut milk and spices. Malaysians love their curry, and this dish is a perfect example of their mastery of the flavor. You'll find it served in local restaurants and street stalls across the country. If you're a fan of noodles and spicy flavors, you absolutely have to try Mee Kari, Bestie! It’s one of my favorite Malaysian dishes hands down. 🍜
I am such a Mee Kari snob so not everyone can make a good Mee Kari that I would consider good. If you come to Las Vegas though, go to Island Malaysia Cuisine in Chinatown - their Mee Kari is da bomb!! That one I approve! 🤤

3. Craving Chicken and Rice? Try Nasi Ayam, a Must-Eat Dish in Malaysia

Nasi Ayam: A Flavorful Malaysian Staple That's Among the Most Eaten Foods

The Most Eaten Rice
Anytime, Anywhere

You literally can find Nasi Ayam anywhere you go in Malaysia. Not even kidding!

Nasi Ayam is a popular rice dish in Malaysia. Nasi means rice and Ayam means chicken in the Malay language. It is often served with poached, fried or roasted chicken, sliced cucumbers, pickled vegetables (some people like this while I prefer fresh iceberg lettuce and sliced tomatoes), spicy dipping sauce as well as a cup of chicken soup. It's a flavorful and satisfying meal that's perfect for lunch or dinner. If you're looking for a hearty and delicious chicken and rice dish, Nasi Ayam is a must-try in Malaysia. Now if you go to a Malay restaurant versus a Chinese restaurant, the flavor and style of Nasi Ayam will be different. So feel free to try both and see which one suits your tastebuds better!
